The Museum of the Northern Cultures is operated by the Chihuahua office of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).

The history of pre-Hispanic cultures in northern Chihuahua abounds while visiting the southern anchor of the Mimbres-Paquime Connection Loop Trail at the Paquime World Heritage Site, located just outside the community of Casas Grandes. In addition to the Paquime Ruins, weathered remnants of a culture that flourished between 900-1300 A.D., visitors to this site will also enjoy a stop at the Museum of the Northern Cultures, which features displays and interpretive exhibits that demonstrate the technological sophistication of this ancient society.

These "T"-shaped entryways are a distinctive architectural phenomenon found throughout the Paquime Ruins.

The ancient city of Paquime featured an inter-city potable water system with connections to a nearby spring through stone-lined canals.
