Saturdays in Deming - Farmers Market/Craft Fair

Come join us at the Historic Baker House ca. 1889 in Deming on 8th St. and Spruce every Saturday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. We have crafts, produce, food and drinks. 2nd Tuesday each month - Mining District Historical Tours

The tours begin at the Bayard City Hall on the second Tuesday of every month. People are asked to call the City Hall at 537-3327 and let them know you plan to attend the tour so we will know what size bus to request. The price of the tour is $5 and a tour guide and brochures will be furnished. The tour goes from Bayard to Santa Rita with five stops in between where the guide will give a bit of history and interesting happenings in the local underground mines at each stop. The tour take about an hour and a half. A short time is also given at the Santa Rita lookout to view the new kiosk and the open pit mine. There is no walking involved, except to get on and off the bus.

Located in downtown Silver City‚ 4 blocks west of Highway 90‚ the Silver City Museum is open with free admission 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM Tuesday through Friday and 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Saturdays and Sundays. Everyday - Deming Luna Mimbres Museum & Custom House

The Luna County Historical Society has a museum in the old Armory building in Deming. There are many fine exhibits...Walk down the streets of pioneer Deming; admire the charming ladies' styles of early 1900s. Visit the Quilt - Lace room. Two thousand bells and hundreds of whiskey bottles, portraying every real and fictional character you can name, will hold your attention. There is no admission charge, but contributions are much appreciated. Wheelchair access and a motorized chair lift are available. Monday - Saturday 9 am - 4 pm, Sunday 1:30 pm - 4 pm Closed: New Years Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas.


3rd Saturdays in Summer Music in the Park-Rockhound State Park
6 - 8 pm
The hills are alive with the sound of music on the third Saturday in June, with some wonderfull musical entertainment for listening and dancing. Sponsored by the Friends of Rockhound State Park. Free and open to the public. Fees: No entrance fee. Contact: Visitor Center (575) 546-6182

Celebrate Fort Bayard's 142nd Birthday with tours, speakers, and games on the parade ground. Dinner and speaker at 6 pm, $15. Square dance at 7 pm, $10 per person.


Labor Day Wknd Rolling Stones Gem & Mineral Show

Over Fifty Vendors from all around the Southwestern United States, Mexico and more remote areas bring their museum quality mineral specimens, jewelry, and arts crafted from rock and gems. Quantities of "rough" stones are available for your own cutting and polishing work. Equipment and supplies for these endeavors are available. Silent auction's ending every 30 minutes throughout the show, with many fine mineral specimens, fossils, petrified wood, and cut slabs in each round of the auction. Children of all ages are thrilled by the "chance" to win a beautiful polished stone at the Wheel of Fortune. Many local vendors offer Grant County's justly renowned minerals and stones and items of jewelry they have fashioned from them. There is plenty of free parking and admission to the show if free. September 18-21 4th Annual Gila River Festival

The fourth annual Gila River Festival is an opportunity to celebrate our beloved Gila River as a source of inspiration. The festival will bring together experts‚ artists and scientists from many disciplines‚ to celebrate the Gila River through creative expression. Through rock art‚ nature writing‚ field sketching‚ weaving‚ songwriting‚ performance and photography‚ we will bridge the arts and sciences through active discussion and demonstration. The festival format will include intensive workshops‚ a keynote speaker‚ lectures‚ hikes‚ and performances over a four day period. For more information‚ visit www.gilaconservation.org.
